15 Collins Street Floor Slab

Floor slab geometry investigation of a 20 Floor residential Block

Introduction
15 Collins St Floor Slab.jpg Vertigo Specialist High Access Services (Vertigo) were engaged by Connell Wagner to carry out a floor slab geometry investigation at levels of the exterior façade of a 20-storey residential block in Melbourne.

Two elevations of the building have a masonry façade without openings, the reinforced concrete floor slab edges are obscured by metal cover strips.

The investigation was prompted by concerns of the slab support capacity and was completed using Industrial Rope Access methods in August 2005. This project draws on Vertigo’s expertise in investigation of building structures.

Scope of Work
The investigation comprised a check of fastening & corrosion status of fixings of floor-slab metal cover strips.

Recording of the geometry of the layout behind the floor slab metal cover strips was made using a borescope, inserted through a hole cut in the metal cover strip.

Typical dimensions recorded include the overlap of masonry panels beyond the floor slab edge, cavity width & gap size at top of masonry panel to floor slab.

Outcome
Vertigo successfully completed the investigation and geometry data was issued to the client for their Engineering appraisal.
