Bourke Place Glass Replacement

Curtain Wall Glass Unit Replacement on 42nd Floor of A Commercial Tower

Bourke Place Glass Replacement.jpg Introduction
Vertigo Specialist High Access Services (Vertigo) were engaged by Arup Façade Engineering on behalf of AMP Henderson to carry out the replacement of a damaged curtain wall glass unit on the 42nd floor of Bourke Place, Melbourne.

The structure comprises a single tower approximately 50 floor levels in height and houses commercial offices. The external façade of the building comprises window wall and metal spandrel panel elements. The curtain wall glass unit replacement was performed in November 2002. This project draws on Vertigo’s expertise to provide remedial services to curtain wall facades, particularly where access is an issue.

Scope of Work
Utilising the existing building maintenance unit externally and fall restraint protected personnel internally, the damaged 2134mm X 1288mm, 10.76mm thick glass unit was removed from the opening. After suitable preparations a replacement glass unit was installed and structurally glazed into position.

Outcome
The major prerequisite for the glass unit replacement was a weather window of suitably calm wind & weather conditions. Once such an opportunity presented itself, the replacement was performed to the satisfaction of the client.
