Centurion Curtain Wall

New Construction, External Façade of a Residential Tower

Introduction
Centurion Curtain Wall.jpg Vertigo Specialist High Access Services (Vertigo) were engaged by Walters Construction Group Ltd to complete construction of various façade elements on the external building envelope of Centurion Apartments in South Melbourne.

The recently constructed residential building comprises a single tower rising 31 floors above ground level and the external facade incorporates concrete panels and includes curtain wall cladding at upper floor levels. With construction access systems removed, a number of outstanding construction details still required completion in addition to minor rectification works in some areas. This work was performed by Vertigo using Industrial Rope Access Techniques between August and December 2002.

Scope of Work
The types of façade construction work performed included:

  • Installation of missing curtain wall cladding elements.
  • Installation of sealant in curtain wall and concrete panel joints.
  • Installation of opacifier sheets behind the existing curtain wall glass spandrel panels to prevent “read through” of the building details behind the spandrels.

This involved the external removal and replacement of some 250 spandrel panels.

Outcome
Vertigo completed the construction work to the satisfaction of the client.
