Construction Work Preliminaries To Regulating Pond Dam
Introduction
Vertigo Specialist High Access Services (Vertigo) were engaged by Geotech Engineering Ltd to perform preliminary access installations on a project to modify the dam crest / spillway of the Dartmouth Regulating Pond Dam in theVictorian High Alpine Country.
This is a concrete dam structure approximately 60m wide that operates as a regulating pond on the Mita Mita River several kilometres downstream from the main Dam that forms Lake Dartmouth and is part of the Goulburn-Murray Water Authority catchment area. The works were performed in May 2003. This project draws on Vertigo’s expertise to provide construction services where access is an issue.
Scope of Work
Initially an access system was set up along the length of the crest that was then utilised to access the upstream and downstream faces of the dam via rope access methods. Brackets were fixed into the concrete structure on dam faces and a walkway and materials tramway constructed to facilitate the contractors dam crest modifications.
Outcome
The walkways and tramway were successfully installed and enabled the client to commence the crest modification work.
