Terminals Geelong Sphere Inspection

Ultra Sonic Testing of Spherical Storage Vessel

Introduction
Terminals Geelong Inspection.jpg Vertigo Specialist High Access Services were engaged by AMEC (Metlabs), on behalf of Terminals Pty Ltd, to provide access in order to conduct a UT metal thickness survey to the external surfaces of a spherical chemical storage vessel at the plant in Geelong. The vessel was used to store a scheduled poison, vinyl chloride monomer.

The testing was completed using Industrial Rope Access methods in December 2004. This project draws on Vertigo’s experience in working in oil, gas & chemical facilities.

Scope of Work

Thickness measurements of the steel vessel walls were made from the external surface using an ultra sonic (UT) tester from access provided by Vertigo.

Outcome
The testing was completed and the results processed in order to ensure the continuing integrity of the vessel.
